Editorial standards
Independence: Kin’s online content is written and edited by home insurance experts who work independently from our business teams.
Accuracy: Our editorial process was designed to ensure our content is well-cited, evidence-driven, and up-to-date.
Clarity: Instead of jargon, we use conversational language to simplify home insurance while clearly defining industry terms.
Editorial process
Our writers and editors follow the Society of Professional Journalists’ code of ethics when planning, writing, revising, and publishing content. Before we publish a new article or update an existing one, our research is carefully fact-checked by our internal staff. We’re constantly reviewing our content to make sure it’s up-to-date, so near the top of each article, you can see its most recent update date.
We cite reputable, third-party sources for home insurance data, including the Insurance Information Institute (III) and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Sometimes, we supplement these sources with our own data, including customer surveys, which we always cite for visibility and clarity.
We also cite government data sources when applicable, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for weather and climate data, as well as state departments of insurance for state-based data.
